Klaper's medical career progressed, he began to realize that many of the diseases his patients brought to his office—clogged arteries atherosclerosis , high blood pressure hypertension , obesity, adult onset diabetes, and even some forms of arthritis, asthma, and other significant illnesses—were made worse, or actually caused by the high-fat, overly processed Standard American Diet SAD. This prompted him to undertake a serious study of the link between diet and disease, eventually leading him to implement nutritionally-based therapies in his practice.
The results were dramatic. Nearly all of his patients who followed his dietary, exercise, and stress reduction programs soon became leaner and more energetic, while their elevated blood pressures and cholesterol levels returned to safer values. In twelve weeks on this same program, Dr. He also observed that many of the chronic diseases mentioned above improved or resolved completely, often allowing his patients to reduce or discontinue their medication entirely. Klaper believes strongly that proper nutrition and a balanced lifestyle are essential for health and, in many cases, make the difference between healing an illness and merely treating the symptoms.

As the author responded to the first reviewer, it is obvious to anyone reading this book for a number of reasons that the first reviewer had it confused with another book. There are super easy recipes, but gourmet-challenging ones too. But I'm guessing most recipes won't take more than minutes, if that, to prepare. Yes, she gave me the book. But if you know me former TV reporter turned author , I only review books I love, gift or not. I just couldn't stand that the first review was so inaccurate. As we all know, reviews like that can shape the entire future of a book, which is the result of years of work, sweat and love.

Hi, this book is great for vegan newbies, with a whole lot of information about the benefits of veganism and the dangers of SAD standard American diet. She's an M. Most readers will probably skim through the big front section with the scientific arguments for their cause--others like myself will probably skip to the recipe sections, which is okay but not too generous. You can catch Dr. Mary's talk on Youtube for the Hawaiian Vegetarian Society a very good overall source of info for those interested in the vegan life and get most of her information that appears in the book.
She's a convert herself from the SAD diet so can offer her own testimonial for the virtues of a meat and dairy-free diet. The physical book is nicely done--nice to look at, glossy pages. However, if you're an old vegan hand looking for more recipes, perhaps one of the many macrobiotic cookbooks or vegan cookbooks would be a better choice. I myself have been trying hard to convert from vegatarianism which includes dairy, mainly to veganism, for weight loss and greater health--I'm looking to find a basic diet that is fairly easy and fast to prepare, so I'm always scouting the recipe books--I'm already convinced that veganism is good for us chubbies.
I've only lost about ten pounds but even that little weight loss is said to be pretty beneficial--still, it's no miracle weight loss diet, at least not for me. Format: Kindle Edition. I have struggled off and on to live a vegan lifestyle for 30 years. Getting my hands on this book made the transition quick and easy. The recipes are realistic, yummy, and quick.
